Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve
Located along the stunning Mexican Caribbean, the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest protected area in the region. It encompasses diverse tropical ecosystems, including mangroves, wetlands, and the most extensive coastal lagoon system in southern Quintana Roo.
The reserve also features a 40-kilometer stretch of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef—the world’s second-largest coral reef—offering a rich underwater haven for marine life. Sian Ka’an is home to an extraordinary array of flora and fauna, including elusive jaguars, pumas, ocelots, tapirs, nesting turtles, and a wealth of marine species such as corals and crustaceans. With over 300 bird species, the reserve is also a paradise for birdwatchers and a vital sanctuary for avian biodiversity.

Nestled within this reserve is the small village of Xcalak, located at the southern end of the Costa Maya. Our modular, adaptable technologies enable us to deliver impactful, specialized services in this remote location, supporting the preservation of its ecosystems while fostering sustainable benefits for Xcalak and other surrounding communities.
